IN HOUSE SOMMELIER

Enhancing the wine experience

Our Sommelier, Jorge Mitchel, is a wine expert who specializes in the restaurant side of the wine industry. Extremely well trained in wine tasting, pairing wine with foods, wine purchasing, wine storage, and the creation of wine lists.

The core purpose of our sommelier service is to ensure that dining patrons are able to find a wine within their budget that fits their tastes and complements their food. At the basic level, this means that our expert works with the kitchen to find suitable wines to pair with each entree dish on the menu and other courses as well. At a higher level, our Sommelier is on the floor of the restaurant and in the wine cellar lobby, helping customers to decide the exact wine that best meets their needs.

TOP WINES AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE

Keeping with tradition, a majority of the wines from Don Sanchez Restaurant remain local, coming from the Guadalupe Valley located in the Northern Baja Peninsula. The Guadalupe Valley just northeast of Ensenada is at the forefront of the Baja wine movement and has over 50 wineries – artisan, boutique, and commercial, both large and small who are producing some remarkable wines.

The wine producing regions of Baja, like wine itself, have gotten better with age. In the past few years there has been an explosion of creative juices flowing south of the border as new and exciting wineries and wines are popping up seemingly overnight. Some have called it the “renaissance of Baja’s wine country” and the excitement is growing. Additionally, within our collection of 300 wine labels, patrons will also find wines from around the world including Napa Valley, Europe and Latin America just to name a few.
