It’s that time of year again! It’s the time when we declare ambitious promises to the world in the hopes that we can use a brand new year to create better versions of ourselves. I for one, have nothing against New Years resolutions. I believe they’re a great way to motivate ourselves to move forward and test our comfort zones. That being said, it’s still a sad truth that only about 8% of New Year’s goals are actually achieved. In our own attempt to help raise that percent we are giving you 5 tips to achieve a popular new resolution: Cut out the processed crap!
Not only is cutting out processed foods and chemicals a great way to get in better shape (and possibly shed those last few pounds) but it will also benefit your mental health, your family, your community and even the environment! So, without further ado, our top 5 tips on going all natural!
Step 1 Visit Your Local Market: Staying away from factory produced cans and packaging can be a costly habit, particularly if “cut back on spending” made it onto your list of resolutions this year. A simple solution to this problem is to fully take advantage of your local farmers markets. Not only will you find lower prices than in chain stores but you will also be supporting your local farmer! Here in Cabo we have three farmers markets happening in Downtown San Jose, Pedregal and Palmilla. Another option is to check out www.localharvest.org to find local growers near you!
Step 2 Do it Yourself: Some would be surprised to find that the chemicals that go on your body are just as toxic as the ones that go in you! Many families are opting to make their own natural cleaning products, soap, shampoo and more. Tutorials can be easily found online, and often ingredients are inexpensive and can be found in your own pantry. If you find yourself short on time you can always purchase non-toxic items from brands such as Meyers or Burt’s Bees.
Step 3 Plant a Garden: Got a green thumb? Save money while going as organic as it gets and plant your own vegetable Garden at home. Consider partnering up with your friend and planting different types of crops so you can trade off for more variety, or get the kids involved. Don’t stress if you’ve never gardened a day in your life, there are plenty of sites such as www.earthbox.com that supply everything you need to garden in one set including step by step instructions.
Step 4 Check your labels: Labeling these days is as misleading as it comes and there’s a high likelihood that some of the products in your home that have “Healthy colors” or “low fat” claims are the most guilty culprit. Be sure that the healthy snack you’re eating are healthy after all before purchasing more, when in doubt make some at home yourself!
Step 5 Choose Restaurants with Common Values: More and more restaurants are finally taking a stand against processed ingredients and are opting for more locally sourced, organic products. The Tadd Chapman Restaurant group makes it a priority to focus on obtaining the best local and all natural ingredients, so you can trust what goes on your plate even when you eat out!
In just five simple steps you’re ready for a healthier 2016! Be sure to check out our Facebook pages for more information on locally sourced ingredients, and how our restaurants do their very best to feed you REAL food.
